Mental Health Support Across the NT: MIFANT March 2026

From mental health support in Darwin to youth early intervention in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, March was a reminder of what MIFANT has always been built on. Not programs. Not policies. People.
Community Mental Health Support in Darwin: International Women's Day at MiPlace Hub
On International Women's Day, MiPlace Hub in Darwin felt like exactly what it is: a space where people belong.
The team decorated MiPlace Hub, set out pink heart glasses, dragon fruit, and red velvet cupcakes. It was a morning tea in the truest sense. Not a formal event, just people gathering, sharing food, and marking the day together.

That is the point of MiPlace Hub. It runs Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 1:00pm at 2/273 Bagot Road, Coconut Grove, and mornings like this one are part of what makes it different from a standard mental health service. It is a community space. People know each other there. They look out for each other.
Recovery does not always look like a clinical milestone. Sometimes it looks like showing up on a weekday morning, sitting with people who know your name, and sharing a meal.
For the people at MiPlace, moments like the International Women's Day morning tea are part of what staying well can look like day to day.
Government and Community: Robyn Lambley Visits MiPlace Hub
On a Friday this month, MIFANT welcomed Robyn Lambley, Speaker of the NT Legislative Assembly, to MiPlace Hub in Darwin.
Robyn spent time with the MIFANT team and the people the organisation supports. She saw programs running. She heard directly from the people at the heart of what MIFANT does.

The decisions that shape mental health funding and community services in the NT are made by people in positions of influence. When those people see firsthand what community mental health support looks like, and who it is for, those conversations lead somewhere.
We are grateful to Robyn Lambley for taking the time to engage with MIFANT directly. This is the kind of relationship between the community sector and government that leads to better outcomes for Territorians who need it most.
Community Mental Health Outreach in Darwin: Coolalinga Central
Mental health support should not be something people have to search hard to find. That belief takes MIFANT out into the community regularly, because not everyone knows what mental health services are available in the NT or how to access them.
This month, the MIFANT team was at Coolalinga Central, meeting locals and answering questions about free mental health support in the Northern Territory. People stopped by. They asked questions. Some were looking for support for themselves. Others were asking for a family member.

For someone who has been sitting with something difficult and wondering whether to ask for help, a simple, judgment-free conversation with a familiar face can be the thing that shifts everything. No forms. No waiting room. Just a real conversation with someone who knows the system and can help you find the right pathway forward.
If you missed the MIFANT team at Coolalinga, that conversation is still available to you. Call (08) 8948 1051 or email admin@mifant.org.au, and the team will help you understand what is out there and how to access it.
Mental Health Support in Tennant Creek: A Yarn at the Women's Refuge
In Tennant Creek this month, the MIFANT team sat with women at a local Women's Refuge for something quiet but significant: a yarn about feelings, and about what it really means to stay well when life is difficult.
Emotion cards were passed around. People opened up. For many of the women in the room, it was the first time they had spoken about their mental health in a space that felt safe.

Access to mental health programs in Tennant Creek is limited, and the barriers are real. Stigma is one. Not knowing where to start is another. Not having a space that feels culturally and personally safe is a third. What the team created in that room was none of the above.
When a mother understands her own mental health, that understanding flows on to her children. Early support for a parent is, in many ways, early support for a whole family.
MIFANT has been showing up for Territory communities for over 30 years. The work in Tennant Creek is part of what that commitment looks like in practice: sitting with people, listening, and walking beside them through the hard parts.
Alice Springs Mental Health: MiTrack at the Mini Paralympics
In Alice Springs, the MIFANT team joined Disability Advocacy Service at the Mini Paralympics for a day that brought together students, families, and community members in a genuinely joyful way.
Wheelchair basketball, soccer, tennis, and blindfold soccer were all on the program. Students from Living Water and Steiner School came along. It was exactly what community events are meant to create: connection, participation, and a sense of belonging.

The MIFANT MiTrack team was there throughout the day, connecting with young people and families.
MiTrack is a free early intervention program for young people in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Elliott, and Ali Curung. Early support for youth changes long-term outcomes. That is not a statistic. It is what we see every day.
Community events like the Mini Paralympics are a natural environment for early intervention work. Young people are relaxed. Families are present. For some families, a brief conversation at an event like this becomes the first step toward getting the support their child needs.
If you are a parent, carer, teacher, school counsellor, or health professional working with a young person in Alice Springs or Tennant Creek, MiTrack is available at no cost.
