July has been a full month across the MIFANT community in Darwin. A fundraiser evening at Deckchair Cinema, a day at the Darwin Royal Show, a Ministerial visit to MiPlace Hub, and a busy calendar of activities in MiPlace Hub and out in the community. Here is a look at what has been happening.

Moulin Rouge Fundraiser Night at Deckchair Cinema

On Sunday evening, the community gathered at Deckchair Cinema for a Moulin Rouge fundraiser night. The evening raised funds for mental wellness and recovery support across the Northern Territory.

Minister Robyn Cahill Visits MiPlace Hub

MIFANT had the privilege of welcoming Minister Robyn Cahill, Member for Port Darwin to MiPlace Hub. This visit provided an opportunity to share our organisation's history and the core programs that drive our mission forward. We discussed our ongoing commitment to supporting individuals living with psychosocial disability, alongside the dedicated families who stand beside them.

Minister Cahill also toured our facilities, gaining first-hand insight into the vital resources and community connections offered at the MiPlace Hub. Engaging with key decision-makers is a crucial component of our advocacy work, ensuring continuous progress towards a Northern Territory where individuals experiencing mental illness receive comprehensive support and guidance through the system.

Mental health support in Darwin works best when the people who represent and resource our community understand what it looks like up close. Visits like this one are an important part of how that understanding is built.

What Has Been Happening at MiPlace Hub

Participants have been gathering for art and craft sessions throughout the month. Working with their hands and sitting alongside others gives participants a focus for the morning and a reason to come back. For many, MiPlace Hub is a consistent point in the week at a time when consistency can be hard to find.

Pool games have been running regularly at the Hub, bringing plenty of laughter and some friendly competition. Connection builds through repetition, and these regular activities are part of how that happens at MiPlace Hub.

MiPlace Hub is a free community day program offering mental health support for adults in Darwin. Open Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 1:00pm, at 2/273 Bagot Road, Coconut Grove.

Cool Program Update

Darwin Royal Show

Cool Program participants spent a day at the Darwin Royal Show, visiting the animal nursery, wandering through the horticulture hall, and discovering the bonsai display. The colour and energy of the showground made for a full and enjoyable day out.

Out and about this month

The Cool Program has also taken participants bowling at Kingpin, out to Lake Bennett for the day, along the coastal track at East Point, and to visit horses.

Getting out, trying new things, and spending time with people who understand the journey is part of how recovery happens. That is what the Cool Program is built around, and what it delivers for adults in Darwin week after week.
