Entries are open now to anyone living in the Northern Territory, and they close on Monday 28 September 2026.

What is Colour Hunting NT?
Colour Hunting NT is a free, Territory-wide photo competition run by MIFANT for Mental Health Week 2026, which falls in early October. It is the part of our Colour Your World campaign that anyone can join from wherever they are, without coming to an event.
You do not need a proper camera. You do not need to know anything about photography.
How does it work?
Pick one colour. Red, blue, ochre, green, purple, any colour you like.
Go and find it. In your street, your backyard, the ranges, the beach, the kitchen.
Take four photos of that colour.
Scan the QR code on the flyer, or click the button below for the submission.
No smartphone? Email your four photos to promotions@mifant.org.au and we will help you to enter to the competition.
Why a photo competition for Mental Health Week?
When you are stressed, tired, or low, your attention narrows. You stop noticing what is in front of you. Choosing one colour and going out to look for it pulls your attention outward for a few minutes, and gets you moving while it does.
It is a small, practical version of what our peer workers and recovery coaches talk about with participants every week: getting outside, paying attention to the present, and doing something with your hands.
We made the competition Territory-wide on purpose. Mental health support looks different in Darwin than it does in Alice Springs or Tennant Creek, and different again in a community like Elliott or Ali Curung. Formal support can be hard to reach in regional and remote parts of the Northern Territory. A colour hunt works the same on every street, with no appointment and no waiting list, and that is exactly the point of Mental Health Week: putting mental wellbeing back into everyday life.
Who is this for?
Anyone living in the Northern Territory, at any age and any skill level. Participants and their families, carers, school students, people who have never picked up a camera, and people who take photos every day.
If you are a parent or grandparent, this is an easy afternoon to share with kids. If you are a health professional or support worker, it is a simple activity to suggest to someone who needs a reason to get out of the house this month.
When are winners announced?
Winners will be announced on Wednesday 7 October 2026 at MiPlace Hub Open Day in Darwin, at 2/273 Bagot Road, Coconut Grove, and online the same day on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
There will be prizes for the top entries, and we will share the full prize details in the coming weeks.
