Coffee, Lunch and a Yarning Circle at MiPlace Hub
What Is MiPlace Community Support and Resilience?
MiPlace Community Support and Resilience is a new series of community sessions at MiPlace Hub, proudly supported by the Northern Territory Government. Each session brings people together over food and conversation to talk about what helps us feel well and stay connected.

Session One is called Welcome, Safety and Connection. Over coffee and a shared lunch, we will yarn about what helps people feel safe, welcome and connected, and what makes a place feel like somewhere you belong.
It is also a chance to find out more about mental health support in Darwin, and what is available to you through MiPlace and the wider community.
What Actually Happens on the Day?
Coffee and lunch. Settle in with a coffee, refreshments and a shared lunch. Food is a simple way to break the ice, and nobody needs to arrive with something to say.
Conversation. Catch up with others at your own pace. Some people like to chat straight away, and others prefer to listen for a while. Both are welcome.
Yarning circle. Yarning is a way of sharing stories and knowledge that comes from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. In a yarning circle, everyone has the chance to speak and be heard, and nobody is rushed. This yarn will focus on what helps people feel safe, welcome and connected.
Wellbeing activity. A simple activity to help you unwind and connect with the people around you.
MiPlace and supports. Our team will be there to talk about MiPlace and the community supports available to you, including what the NDIS pathway looks like if that is something you have been wondering about.
Who Is This For?
Everyone (adults). You do not need a referral, a diagnosis or a reason to come along.
You might be living with a mental health condition, caring for someone who is, or simply looking for a friendly place to connect with others in Darwin. You might already know MiPlace Hub well, or this might be your first visit. If you are new, our team will say hello and help you settle in.
You show up. That is the first step, and often the hardest one.
Why Connection Matters for Mental Health
Feeling isolated can make everything harder. Having people around who know you and are glad to see you makes the tough weeks easier to get through. That is why so much of what happens at MiPlace Hub takes place over a cuppa, a meal or a shared activity, rather than across a desk.
For many people in Darwin, the hardest part of getting mental health support is knowing where to start. A relaxed session like this lets you meet our team and ask questions without the pressure of a formal appointment.
