April at MiPlace Hub Darwin: A Month Worth Celebrating

A Welcomed Visit from Oly Carlson MLA

This month, MiPlace Hub welcomed Oly Carlson MLA, Assistant Minister for Health and Member for Wanguri, to 2/273 Bagot Road. Oly toured the space, met members of the team, and took the time to hear about the work MIFANT does across the Territory for people living with mental illness and their families.

We hope the visit gave Oly and her office a real sense of the community that has built up here and the difference that a consistent, welcoming space can make in someone's life. We value having that story heard at a government level, and we look forward to continuing the conversation.

A Month of Making and Doing

The April program was hands on from the start. Participants joined Sachi for an origami session, worked on art projects, spent time in the garden tending to the plants, and filled the lounge area with video games and the kind of easy conversation that happens when people are comfortable with each other.

Cool Program Gets Out and About

The Cool Program kept the group moving throughout April. They kicked off the month with shopping and coffee at Gateway, spent a full day at Fannie Bay Gaol and the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT, slowed things down with a coffee afternoon at the Botanic Gardens, and finished the month out at the Darwin Waterfront.

Johnathan's Birthday

April also brought a birthday celebration for Johnathan, his birthday cake was topped generously with strawberries, cream, and chocolate biscuits, and Johnathan had the honour of cutting it himself.

These are the kinds of moments that stay with people. Being remembered, being celebrated, having people around you who care. That is what community looks like, and MiPlace Hub has been building it quietly and consistently for a long time.

What April Reminded Us

Mental wellbeing is not built in a single appointment or a single conversation. It is built in moments like these, shared with people who show up.
